Happy Nutritious Christmas!
Happy Nutritious Christmas!
December is renowned for being the month of indulgence, with healthy habits often taking a back seat until the New Year...
Enjoy your Christmas break and see it as an opportunity to reflect back on the progress you have made so far and think about new goals and aspirations for the year ahead. From a health perspective, which elements would you like to improve upon, and what small steps could you incorporate into your lifestyle that would have a lasting benefit?
Optimising Nutrition – On A Budget
As we gear up towards Christmas (46 days and counting...), thoughts begin to turn towards roast turkey and mince pies (or is that just me?), not to mention the inevitable shopping list of presents!
Which brings me nicely onto the subject of money. Or lack of it. A common misconception is that eating well is expensive and perhaps spending all that money on so-called ‘healthy’ foods a bit unnecessary… especially when it involves big bags of overpriced kale. Because what’s wrong ...
Fruit: The Facts & Fibs
I’ve been wanting to write a fruity blog for a while, thinking it might be a more popular one. Everyone loves fruit! What’s not to like? It’s universally celebrated as nature’s convenient little snack, just pop an apple in your bag and off you go.
And it’s so photogenic too...food blogs and Instagram are full of strawberry and kiwi platters. Even my own website is a big tableau of colourful fruit…look how pretty it is! Because who wants to be greeted with an intro photo of a ...
Fizzy Drink Dilemma…Solved!
Just a quick blog post today to cover a notable topic that affects many of us.
I was watching a programme last night with someone on it guzzling down on a can of Coca-Cola...queue a short but notable pang of longing.
I even remembered this wildly popular info-graphic, but it didn't really help at the time:
Surely the cravings for naughty foods and drinks should disappear once you have studied and established their potential health implications and negligent nutritional value? No! ...
To Beef or Not to Beef?
Nutrition can be complicated, with information on what is healthiest for us often being wildly conflicting. Should we all be vegetarians or vegans, or give up grains and dairy for good?
The answer is unfortunately never that simple. Whilst the marketing machine for the next big diet trend may try to convince you otherwise, there isn’t one particular diet that will work for each and every one of us in the same way. We all have individual requirements when it comes to our dietary needs and ...
Clear Skin D.I.Y
I love natural skincare and have recently been experimenting with some cleanser and toner ‘recipes’. Making my own products was actually much easier than I thought, and often works out much cheaper too!
Unfortunately many skincare products in the shops today are full of different artificial ingredients, from cheap preservatives such as parabens, to foaming agents called sodium laurel sulphates. The continued exposure to these compounds on a daily basis is concerning largely because the ...
London Food Festivals – May 2016
May is one of my favourite months, mainly because we have two Bank Holidays to look forward to! Personally I feel that all weekends should be three days long, it seems more balanced that way. ;)
The milder weather brings with it the return of many outdoor-based events and food festivals, getting lots of us back into the spirit of trying new things and socialising after months of (perhaps) staying indoors huddled up on the sofa.
Fancy some inspiration to get you out and about? Here is a ...
London Events – April 2016
At last…Spring is finally here! April is bringing us some milder weather, lighter evenings and a transition towards more vibrant seasonal foods. My juicer is out of hibernation and the rainbow salads are taking precedence again over hearty soups and stews.
After a seemingly endless hiatus under woolly jumpers and thick tights, now is the perfect time to re-energise and ‘Spring Clean’, whether that’s your house, your job or your lifestyle….but your health should always be top ...
Protein Bars (No Baking Required)
Making your own protein bars is easy (no baking required!) and a much healthier and cheaper alternative to pre-made ones, which are often full of artificial sweeteners.
Ensuring you are eating enough protein is vital for muscle and tissue development, metabolism, energy levels and immune system.
This recipe is one of the best I have found - it only requires four ingredients and take ten minutes! They make a perfect snack on the go, or before/after a workout.
Once prepared, you ...
